Portlandia

Ok, this picture sums up a lot. I had a jammy, fun-filled weekend in Portland with a medley of old friends that I mixed together for good food, conversation and outdoor activities. I arrived in Portland at my friend Rachel’s house to find that she had wild blackberries growing on her front yard. Amazing. I was heartbroken on Saturday morning to find gardeners trimming back the front yard including the bush-filled berries. I stopped in my tracks and and said “You cut down the blackberries?” while they stared at me blankly. Haha. But I already had my fill of picking wild Marionberries and Boysenberries Thursday evening at a farm on Sauvie Island where twin folk singers plucked and round babies danced. At one point, I realized that I was becoming a baby paparazzi and had to control myself. Then, Kate arrived and we connected to my other friend Rachel who I hadn’t seen in over 10 years. We were camp friends from age 9 to 13 and had bonded over our rebellious tendencies that got us kicked out of camp. It was great to see her and join her on a weekend of readings at the IPRC and the Waypost. She’s a great writer and I can’t wait to read what she writes next! I want to savor the memories over some berries right now. Too bad you can’t bring jam on airplanes these days.

I uploaded a small Flickr set here. Enjoy!

LA Times

Hello. Los Angeles Times. July. So, I just put my Snack Mountain site back up. I think I will edit it or reorganize it to show my work in a slightly different way. My goal for the next few months is to build an illustration portfolio to start getting work in that area (both editorial and commercially).

I am happy to say that living in Los Angeles continues to be a social mecca for me. I feel lucky to be surrounded by creative peers who inspire me to do my own work. For example, my main partner in crime, Maura, is a constant source of inspiration and wisdom. Last night, we were drawing together on a mini project. As she would say, “we are just two nellies drawing.” Haha.

I just created a Behance portfolio too and am planning to start drawing as much as possible. Keep your eyes open for some new video work too. Claymation, stop-motion, food art, here we come! And, in case you are wondering, I did not make that sand sculpture above as many people in my family assumed I did. I just admired it at Venice Beach and am using it as a source of inspiration for future work! Stay tuned.

Seoul Pictures and Videos!

Hello! I have returned from Seoul! I uploaded many pictures on Flickr which you can view here! I also made a montage of videos I shot and you can see that right now! Most of the footage is from the Teddy Bear Museum where they tell the history of Korean culture via animatronic teddy bear dioramas. Amazing:

LA —> Seoul

Yes, that is right. I am going to Korea! I can’t even tell you how excited I am. In particular, I can’t wait to go to MMMG which is my favorite stationery store! Get excited for pictures and videos when I get back. Yeehaw!

Summer is here!

I feel funny saying “Summer is here” in Los Angeles. But I just got my nails painted like watermelons so it’s gotta be true! Plus, I’ve discovered the amazing Mar Vista farmers market where they sell this chinese spinach that matches my new nails:

The Old and The New!

Hello world. I have been absent for quite some time. I’ve been so busy lately, I don’t even know where to begin. Let’s start with the new. I am moving to Culver City this weekend. I can’t even tell you how sad I am to leave Silver Lake/Los Feliz but I’m pretty sure I’ll be back over there in the not too distant future. Plus, I love exploring new neighborhoods! To prepare for the change, I went home for a week to see some familiar faces on Fire Island:

We made some amazing food:

And bought some hand painted shells from adorable children on the beach (Yes, that is Elmo and Cookie Monster):

Well, I’m off to move on and up! Cheers till next time!

Hello Readers.

Hi, hello,

I say “readers” because several friends have told me that they are now reading my blog so I thought I would address them, or you directly. To your dismay, you may have noticed that I have not been posting very frequently. Well! I’ve been busy. Yes, commuting and being sick and working and well, stuff. Anyhoo, looking backwards a bit I had a great week in mid-April where I met some rad people at work and went to an awesome secret pop-up dinner by my friend Leif Hedendal. Here are some photos from the event:

Moving on, I feel the need to mention that I have recently become obsessed with Marc Maron. His WTF podcast has seriously made commuting not only bearable but almost something I look forward to. Definitely give the Weird Al Yankovic episode a listen. I only wished that they had talked about UHF which is one of my favorite movies of all time. On that note, I will leave you with this. Everytime I drive by Seafood City, I think of it:
